Anthony Gordon to Arsenal: O’Rourke shares ‘big, big’ update today

Arsenal will have to spend “big money” in order to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Gordon remains a key man in Eddie Howe’s plans despite recent injury and suspension issues at Newcastle, with Harvey Barnes excelling in the England winger’s regular left-wing role at St. James’ Park.

Mikel Arteta will be in the market for a left winger this summer, with former Man United scout Mick Brown telling Football Insider that Arsenal are ready to offer Gordon more money than he’s on at Newcastle.

However, sources have told Football Insider that with Newcastle needing to toe the line with Premier League PSR regulations, the Magpies will demand “big, big money” for Gordon if forced into selling him.

Newcastle are reluctant to sell Gordon despite the ongoing pressure surrounding their PSR situation, but Football Insider sources doubt that Arsenal will be willing to spend the kind of money they’ll demand.

Eddie Howe to keep Anthony Gordon at all costs

Football Insider revealed on 11 April that Champions League qualification is vital for Newcastle to keep the likes of Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, and Gordon’s future will be no different.

Barnes’ performances in Gordon’s absence have shown that Newcastle can cope without their number 10, but sources have told Football Insider that he’s still seen as one of Howe’s most trusted players.

Gordon penning a new deal until 2030 last October suggests he’s happy to stay at St James’ Park for the long term, and Newcastle are set to look elsewhere before even contemplating selling him this summer.

Arsenal cast net wide for attacking transfer targets

Arsenal fans have urged Arteta to break the bank in his pursuit of Gordon, but with a Champions League semi-final berth confirmed, the Gunners could now have their pick of Europe’s top attacking talents.

Winning the Champions League would certainly help Arteta in terms of pulling power, and the £100million Arsenal have earned from reaching the last four gives them a sizeable transfer warchest.

Signing a striker of Liam Delap’s quality will be the priority for Arsenal this summer given their injury woes up front, but a pacy winger to rival Gabriel Martinelli would also make up a formidable frontline.
