Anthony Ralston: Scotland fans rage at Celtic star after what he did v Portugal
Scotland fans are raging at Celtic defender Anthony Ralston after his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Portugal on Sunday (8 September).
Steve Clarke’s side took the lead through Scott McTominay after just seven minutes, but goals from Bruno Fernandes (54′) and Cristiano Ronaldo (88′) saw them fall to another defeat.
After suffering yet another defeat, the Scottish national team have now won just one of their last 14 games, and pressure is beginning to grow on the manager’s job.
Following the result, Ralston was highlighted amongst several issues in the squad, with his continued selection a point of contention.
He does not start regularly for Celtic, and made just 18 appearances last season, but remains a mainstay in Clarke’s squads.
The backlash surrounding the right-back’s performance and selection came shortly after the Hoops’ first choice in his position, Alistair Johnston, picked up an injury on international duty.
As a result, Celtic fans are concerned Ralston will be their starting right-back when their Champions League campaign kicks off.

While he wasn’t necessarily at fault for either of the goals, many of Portugal’s attacks came down his side as they targeted the player who has been labelled a “weak link”.
Following the game, Scotland fans took to social media as they were heavily critical of his display and regular appearances for the team.
Some went as far as to insist his continued selection could spell an end to Clarke’s reign as Scotland boss.
