‘Antoine Semenyo could leave Bournemouth for much higher fee’ after deal agreed

Antoine Semenyo could depart Bournemouth for an increased fee after a deal was confirmed.

Semenyo, 25, had attracted interest from Tottenham, Newcastle, and Manchester United after an impressive campaign for the Cherries.

The winger started all but two Premier League games for Andoni Iraola last season, scoring 11 goals and picking up six assists.

Last week (2 July), Semenyo signed a brand new five-year contract with Bournemouth, seemingly putting an end to rumours of a summer exit.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Ghanaian’s new deal doesn’t guarantee his long-term future on the south coast.

Semenyo could still leave despite bumper contract

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Semenyo’s valuation will now be “much higher” after he signed a new contract at Bournemouth.

Before penning an extension, the Cherries would have reportedly accepted offers of £70m for the 25-year-old.

Wyness added that Semenyo could still depart “soon” despite the long-term deal.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It was looking like a one-way exodus from Bournemouth for a while and with Semenyo, I thought he was going to be going as well.

“To stop the rot there and to hear the positive words coming out of Semenyo’s mouth when he signed a five-year deal is great.

“Now, it doesn’t mean to say that he won’t get moved on at some stage soon, because just with that five-year contract, they could command a much higher price for him. Nevertheless, it’s good to stop the rot.”

Bournemouth eye move for Chelsea star

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed that Bournemouth are accelerating a move to sign Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea to fill their current goalkeeper void.

The Cherries are in the market for a new shot-stopper, after failing to permanently bring in loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has completed a switch to Arsenal.

Sources say that Petrovic is likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, and the south coast side are one of a number of teams in the race to secure the 25-year-old.

The Serbia international is valued at just over £20million, and would likely be brought in as Bournemouth’s new number one if the move goes through.
