‘Antoine Semenyo signs off at Bournemouth’ with what he did vs Brentford

Antoine Semenyo’s long-term future looks bleak at Bournemouth after a stunning start to the 2025-26 campaign.

The winger may have played his final match for the Cherries in their 4-1 defeat to Brentford on Sunday.

Semenyo has been linked away from Bournemouth all season, with Man City, Man United and Liverpool all in the race for his signature ahead of January.

However, despite the Cherries’ terrible recent form, the attacker has continued to perform and once again found the back of the net on Saturday.

Martin Keown: Antoine Semenyo’s goal may be sign off at Bournemouth

With Semenyo having a £65million release clause at Bournemouth this January, it is hard to imagine that the Cherries attacker will remain at the South Coast club for long.

The Ghana international is one of the most in-form players in the division, and netted his ninth Premier League goal of the season against Brentford.

Watching the game on BBC’s Final Score on 27 December, Martin Keown believes that the goal was a bit of a sign-off for Semenyo at Bournemouth ahead of his expected departure next month.

He said: “Antoine Semenyo has been quite brilliant for them. They won’t want to lose another player.

“It’s a good backheel but Brentford have been by far the better team.

“It’s maybe a consolation goal and a bit of a signing off from him.”

Andoni Iraola remains determined to keep hold of Semenyo

While many clubs may be pursuing Semenyo, one man who won’t want to see him leave is Andoni Iraola.

Currently, Bournemouth are on a dreadful run of form and have now gone nine games without a victory in the Premier League.

The only shining light in this run has been Semenyo, who has continued to find the back of the net.

As a result, it came as no surprise on 27 December, when Iraola expressed his desire to keep hold of the winger for as long as possible.

Asked if he would rather get the transfer fee for Semenyo early, Iraola disagreed, stating to The Independent“No, the more games Antoine can play for us, (the better).

“If he can play years for us, it’s much better! If it cannot be years, it can be months. If he can only play weeks, it is weeks but the more time he plays with us, the better for us.

“Antoine’s situation is quite clear. Antoine is a massive player for us and even in games like today where probably he hasn’t played well, he is always a threat to score and assist.

“Obviously I don’t want to lose him. This is quite clear, but there are some situations that are not under my control. He will be available to play again in three days (versus Chelsea) and then the next one and I hope he plays a lot more with us.”
