Antonio Conte has made a ‘massive mistake’ amid Tottenham contract latest – pundit

Antonio Conte should never have taken the Tottenham manager’s job.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Italian’s future.

According to The Times (22 January), Conte and Spurs bosses have paused contract talks until the end of the season.

The Italian’s deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expires in the summer and the club have the option to extend his contract by one year.

According to Italian journalist Marco Conterio (22 January), the Lilywhites have begun talks with former boss Mauricio Pochettino in the event Conte does not stay in London.

McManus claims the rest of the season is a write-off for Spurs.

“The whole thing was a massive mistake,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“What did Conte think he was getting with this job? He must know enough people who have worked for or around DAniel Levy for him to know that it would be like this.

“It was the same with Mourinho. You have a top-class manager and you don’t give him the tools he needs to s succeed.

“There is no way Conte is here next season so the rest of the season is just a write off really. Then watch them try and get a new manager in.

“The manager is never backed. Yet we will see some guy come in and try and turn it around and he will convince everyone that it will be different this time, which it won’t be.

“It’s so predictable.

“You just know it’s going to happen.”
