Antony is heading out of Man United after Amad Diallo reveal today

Antony may have been dealt a hammer blow to any hopes he has of making a success out of his move to Man United after the latest contract update from Old Trafford.

The Brazilian joined the Red Devils back in the summer of 2022, following his Ajax manager Erik ten Hag in moving to the club for a fee of £81.3million (BBC Sport).

That has turned into a rather costly move for Man United, with the 24-year-old failing to make anything like the required impact for the club.

To date, the winger has scored just 12 goals and provided only five assists in 88 appearances across all competitions since making that move.

It has already led to suggestions that Antony could soon be on his way out of Old Trafford, and it could now be that potentially his final chance to turn things around is now also about to disappear.

Amad contract update is a blow for Antony Man United prospects

Recent weeks have of course seen Ten Hag depart Old Trafford, with Ruben Amorim arriving to take over first-team affairs.

That might have brought with it the potential for a clean slate for Antony, especially with the Portuguese manager preferring a 3-4-3 system, over the 4-2-3-1 used by his predecessor.

The change in system also appears to have brought about a change in role for the Brazilian, who looks set to be used in a right-wing-back position for Man United under the new manager in a final attempt to establish himself.

A change in job may have given Antony the chance to build a new profile for himself at Old Trafford, making himself more important for the club while filling a new a position.

However, it looks like he miss out on his chance to even do that, with sources telling Football Insider that United are now confident of agreeing a new contract with Amad Diallo by the end of the month.

Like Antony, the 22-year-old has found himself operating in a right-wing-back role when he has been used by Amorim.

The Ivory Coast international has seemingly been favoured ahead of Antony by the new Man United boss.

Ruben Amorim arrival unlikely to rejuvenate Old Trafford flop

While the Brazilian has only made one appearance under Amorim, starting before being substituted in the Europa League against Bodo/Glimt, Diallo already got two Premier League starts in under the new boss.

He has made a big impact in that time, winning plenty of praise for some of his performances, not least in the 4-0 thrashing of Everton.

You would therefore expect Diallo to continue to get the nod for Man United ahead of Antony under Amorim.

So given the 22-year-old could now be set for a long-term stay with the Red Devils, that may make it hard for Antony to get many opportunities in the coming years.

Such a situation could further push him closer to the exit door, if he is not going to get the game time he needs to resurrect his career at the club.

With that in mind, the fact that Amad now looks set to stay at Man United for some time to come yet, could make it even more likely that Antony himself will leave sooner rather than later.
