Leigh Griffiths celebrates scoring against England

By Harvey Byrne

Scotland and Derby attacker Ikechi Anya has told that English clubs should be taking notice of Celtic ace Leigh Griffiths after his two goals across the weekend,

The 26-year-old showed his ability against England on Saturday by striking two sweet free kicks  past goalkeeper Joe Hart in the 2-2 draw.

Following the match the Daily Record claimed that both Premier League clubs Newcastle and West Brom were keen on signing the Hoops goal scorer.

Now, Anya believes that clubs from the English top leagues should be looking at Griffiths following his form for both Celtic and Scotland.

“Leigh is a phenomenal player and it says everything about him that he stepped up on that stage, with that pressure on his shoulders, and scored two free-kicks like that,” told Anya, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“We see it every day in training, he does some incredible things with the ball at times.

“There’s a huge difference from doing it in training and doing it at a packed Hampden against England.

“But he was able to come up with the goods when we needed him to.

“People in England should be taking notice of him, he’s been in great form for Celtic and now he’s doing it for Scotland.

“You can see in the last few performances he’s put in for Scotland that he’s full of confidence.

“With Leigh, it’s all natural ability.”

Griffiths has previously had a spell in England between 2011 and 2014 with Midlands side Wolves, but he only played for the club when they were in League One.

It was in face from Wolves that he joined Celtic and he has not since looked back with 85 goals in 144 appearances for the Hoops.

Last season however he didn’t enjoy as much game time as he maybe would have liked due to the form of young star Moussa Dembele and he may be tempted by a return south this summer.
