Archie Gray and Kalvin Phillips respond to Wilfried Gnonto after confirmed Leeds news
Wilfried Gnonto has scored in back-to-back matches for the first time this season as Leeds United storm into the Premier League.
Leeds have one match left to play this term with the Championship title still up for grabs, after promotion was secured nine days ago for both Daniel Farke‘s side and Scott Parker’s Burnley across the Pennines.
The Whites and Clarets will end the season on 100 points apiece if they both win their final match of the season on Saturday, and as Leeds face second-bottom side Plymouth, they’ll be confident of doing so.
Farke’s side certainly made light work of Bristol City – sat fifth in the table – on Monday at Elland Road, and swept aside the Robins with a 4-0 victory which displayed the very best of Leeds’ attack this term.

Elland Road heroes react to Willy Gnonto as Leeds seal promotion
Gnonto‘s previous goal at Elland Road was the only strike in the second half of Leeds’ 6-0 victory over Stoke City one week prior; the added the polish to a match which Joel Piroe had already won on his own.
Against Bristol City, however, Gnonto’s finish killed off any Robins resistance and doubled the lead for a dominant Leeds after Ao Tanaka’s opener, teed up by a pass-of-the-season contender from Piroe.

Largie Ramazani came off the bench for Gnonto to score the first of two late goals within 60 seconds of his introduction; and the Italian posted on Instagram (29 April) with a series of images from the match.
Ramazani and former Crystal Palace flyer Yannick Bolasie both left comments in support of Gnonto, while ex-Leeds team-mate Archie Gray and 2019–20 promotion winner Kalvin Phillips liked the post.
Gnonto transfer talk to cease at Premier League Leeds
Both of Leeds’ two seasons back in the second-tier have been dominated by talk of their best and most valuable players being plucked by other clubs, and many have in the last two summer transfer windows.
Gnonto, however, has stayed put despite his initial push to leave in August 2023, and has since signed a new contract to extend his stay at Elland Road until 2028, amid continued interest from top-flight clubs.
Everton appeared to be in pole position to sign Gnonto last summer and Football Insider revealed that Saudi Pro League sides also reared their heads in January, but the 21-year-old Italian remains at Leeds.
Farke still has his doubts over Gnonto’s ability to perform consistently at the highest level, but with a crucial summer of transfer business ahead, having the livewire forward in tow will be a welcome boost.
