‘Archie Gray to want Thomas Frank at Tottenham amid Ange Postecoglou sack news’

Tottenham supporters might not be the only ones excited at the prospect of a new manager after updates emerged around Ange Postecoglou in North London.

While the Europa League title is still within Spurs’ grasp this season, the team’s failings across the board have seen Postecoglou come under tremendous risk of being sacked by Daniel Levy.

The Lilywhites have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions, are sitting 14th in the Premier League, and were knocked out of both the EFL Cup and FA Cup at early stages.

By all standards, it has been an awful campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and while the squad has been plagued by injuries, supporters have completely lost faith in the manager.

Brentford boss in the frame at Tottenham as possible sack nears

According to The Athletic [27 March], while Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is the top target to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, both Marco Silva and Thomas Frank are also being considered.

Of course, with Fulham sitting eighth in the Premier League and preparing for the FA Cup quarter-finals, and Brentford sitting in 11th, it could be a tough sell to drag either of them to North London.

However, Frank has had previous contact with Spurs’ technical director Johan Lange, having held talks over the Aston Villa job in 2022, and that could help persuade the Dane to leave the Bees this summer.

One player who could be keeping a close eye on the manager updates is Archie Gray, who was the subject of a £45million bid from Brentford for his move to North London [BBC Sport], though Leeds United rejected the offer.

Archie Gray has fingers crossed for Thomas Frank appointment

Frank and his team were ready to bring the then-18-year-old Gray to the Gtech Community Stadium, but the youngster eventually moved to Spurs following an incredible debut campaign in the Championship.

Since then, Gray has been given limited chances to prove himself as the future of the Lilywhites’ midfield, having instead to fill in for the likes of Tottenham’s injured duo of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at the back.

Despite naturally being a centre-midfielder, he has deputised in that position just three times across all competitions this season, and that has taken away his chance to impress the Spurs fans.

While Postecoglou may have felt he had no other choice, moving a more experienced player like Yves Bissouma or calling up one of the many talented academy defenders has always been on the cards.

Archie Gray has played out of position for much of the season.

Instead, Gray has been underutilised since his move from Elland Road, and whispers of Frank potentially being the one to replace Postecoglou might just be music to his ears in North London.

With the Bees previously ready to splash the cash, the former Leeds man was clearly a valued transfer target at the Gtech Community Stadium, and would have likely made an impact there.

While Christian Noorgard and Vitaly Janelt are key players for the club, there is a distinct lack of competition in that position, and Frank was ready to place his trust in Gray to solve that problem.

Should the pair meet up in North London, the Dane could do wonders for unlocking the player’s true potential in his natural position, rather than keep him stuck at centre-back and wasting his talents.
