Aribo likely to stay at Rangers after £10m offer update – pundit
Joe Aribo is “red hot” but Rangers are unlikely to be inundated with offers in the January transfer window, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Premier League clubs will only make a move if Aribo continues his fine form for the rest of the season.
The midfielder has scored four in his last five Scottish Premiership games with his latest strike coming against Hearts at the weekend.
As quoted by footballscotland yesterday (14 December), Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed they will look into rewarding Aribo with a new contract.
His current Ibrox deal expires at the end of next season and that has fuelled speculation about his future.
A Rangers source told Football Insider (19 October) that the club will demand a fee of at least £10million in the upcoming transfer window.
“You need to remember that he’s red hot, but look at the opposition he’s playing against,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Just because you’re scoring four in five in the Scottish Premiership it doesn’t mean clubs in England are going to be banging your door down.
“They will want to see him over a whole season. What’s his goal return going to be over a whole season? They will look at the standard of the league.
“I don’t think people will be looking at him yet. They will want to see him for the whole season and see how he performs across a full season.
“Also, see how he does in the Europa League against Borussia Dortmund, harder opposition.”

Aribo has scored six goals this season and they have all come in the league.
His best goalscoring campaign for the Gers was the 2019-20 season when he found the net nine times in 49 appearances across all competitions.
