Aribo ‘top of the list’ to be sold by Rangers as financial ‘concern’ detailed – pundit

Frank McAvennie claims Joe Aribo is “top of the list” to be sold by Rangers in January.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists this is owing to the club’s financial situation.

Aribo, 25, has scored three goals and provided one assist in his last seven games for Rangers in all competitions.

His current Ibrox deal expires at the end of next season and that has fuelled speculation about his future.

However, as quoted by footballscotland on 14 December, Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed Rangers will look into rewarding Aribo with a new contract.

McAvennie claims Rangers already have the players to replace Aribo if he does leave the club next month.

“If Rangers are going to sell anyone in January, it will be Aribo,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s top of the list. You look at who is in form and who is really catching the eye. Aribo can do no wrong.

“He’s doing the best he has ever done. We also know Rangers have loads of midfielders.

“There are a couple of lads who could come in and do Aribo’s job, lads who aren’t playing right now.

“So, for me, that’s the one Rangers will have to think about. I’m not saying anyone will definitely be sold.

“But that is always a possibility over there considering the finances. I’m just saying the facts. There is always a concern.”

An Ibrox source told Football Insider (19 October) that the club will demand a fee of at least £10million for Aribo in the upcoming transfer window.

The midfielder has made 121 total appearances for Rangers.
