Arnautovic sends message to West Ham fans after flashpoint in loss v Southampton
By Danny Wright
Marko Arnautovic has taken time to apologise to the West Ham supporters after his red card proved pivotal in their 3-2 loss at Southampton on Saturday.
Slaven Bilic’s side were a goal down when Arnautovic, 28, appeared to launch his elbow at Saints defender Jack Stephens.
After falling two goals behind, Javier Hernandez got his first and second goals for the Hammers, but they would ultimately fall to defeat following a late penalty kick from Charlie Austin.
Arnautovic has since taken to his personal Instagram account to air his regret to the Hammers supporters after the first-half flashpoint arguably cost his side of at least a point.
The attacker’s post was made on his Instagram story, which was shared by West Ham’s official Twitter account.

“I want to apologise to all the West Ham fans. Just want to let you know I didn’t want to let my team down and you fans,” he said.

Arnautovic became West Ham’s record signing earlier this summer when he completed his move from Premier League rivals Stoke.
The Austria international played all 90 minutes of last week’s opening loss at Manchester United and his side’s bad luck has continued this week with a second consecutive loss at the hands of Southampton.
West Ham will no doubt look at Wednesday’s trip to Cheltenham in the Carabao Cup as a chance for them to get their season underway.
A visit to Newcastle is the clubs’ next outing in the Premier League.
