Arne Slot is two games from Liverpool sack – ‘He could be gone quickly’

Arne Slot’s time as Liverpool manager could be coming to an end with the pressure starting to mount on the Dutchman.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Slot could be sacked by Liverpool if he loses two of his next three games.

Liverpool are outside the Champions League spots in the Premier League table, with Slot’s side on a five-game winless streak in the league.

Former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has emerged as a contender to replace Slot, if Liverpool do decide to sack the 47-year-old.

Arne Slot faces Liverpool ‘pressure’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Liverpool must qualify for the Champions League for Slot to keep his job.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes the “pressure is on” Slot to deliver an upturn in results.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yes, Arne Slot. Liverpool have got the next few games. They’ve got Newcastle, Man City, Sunderland. Now, if they were to lose two of those three, I think Slot could be going quickly.

Otherwise, the measure will be for him, will be Champions League. Now, we’ve talked about how important the Champions League is for Man United this year. I think it’s equally as important for Arne Slot and for Liverpool.

“I think if Slot does not make the Champions League this year, then I think he will be gone. But he could be gone quicker, as I say, if those three results, three games coming up, games that they should be winning. But we’ve seen, you know, that they’ve been getting draws when they should have been winning a few times recently. But the pressure is on.”

Liverpool make Virgil van Dijk decision

Liverpool do not have any plans to let Virgil van Dijk depart Anfield, with the 34-year-old still seen as a key figure at the club.

Van Dijk’s contract at Liverpool does not expire until 2027, and the defender could continue playing an important role at the club with Ibrahima Konate’s future not yet resolved.

The Dutchman has started every Premier League game for Liverpool this season, remaining a valuable player for Slot.
