Arne Slot: Liverpool boss ‘running out of excuses’ as sack threat grows

Arne Slot is “running out of excuses” at Liverpool with growing frustrations aimed towards his press conference comments after a number of disappointing results.

Pressure on Slot’s position at Anfield has led to calls for his dismissal in the wake of their 2-1 defeat to Brighton last time out to extend a poor run of form.

The result on the South Coast came following a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Tottenham, and the Reds have now failed to win in nine of their last 15 league games.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that there are only so many times the boss can make the same excuse before it gets tedious.

Supporters and club chiefs are growing increasingly frustrated with the boss as a result, and Liverpool could look for a new manager sooner than expected.

Liverpool unhappy with Arne Slot as pressure builds

Brown told Football Insider on 23 March that Liverpool chiefs are not happy with Slot as he is failing to meet expectations with their league performances.

The Reds still have a chance to win silverware either in the FA Cup or Champions League this season, but are battle to secure qualification for the latter in the Premier League.

Slot has routinely blamed his side’s inability to put away their chances as a major reason for their struggles, while referring to previous victories, but results have not improved.

“Another big problem for Slot is he keeps making excuses,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Sometimes you need to hold your hands up and say, look, we were second best on the day and we’re going to do out best to improve.

“But he comes out with some outlandish statements about the chances they created and they should’ve scored more and decisions went against them.

“It gets tiring listening to him and that’s not just me, the fans and I’m sure the club are getting sick of it too, he’s running out of excuses now.

“He can’t keep speaking about games they’ve won before, that doesn’t matter when you’re losing to Brighton and drawing with Tottenham, it’s irrelevant.

“The focus should be on the position they’re in now and why they’ve got here, but it’s almost like he doesn’t want to accept the responsibility, and that’s a bad sign.”

When could Slot be sacked by Liverpool?

Pressure on Slot’s position is mounting up ahead of the end of the season, when they will likely make a final judgement over his future at Anfield.

They are keen not to rush into any decisions, and Football Insider revealed on 7 March that Liverpool will not sack Slot unless they miss out on Champions League football.

A fifth-place finish in the Premier League and subsequent qualification for Europe’s premier competition would be enough for the boss to remain in his role.

Despite falling short of expectations after last season’s league success, there are still hopes that Slot will be the man to lead them into the future.

However, the fifth-place spot is highly coveted this season, with Chelsea proving to be the main rivals for the position despite their own turbulent form.
