‘Arne Slot’s expected first Liverpool signing now wanted at Anfield’ – ‘Serious’ update

Arne Slot is looking to strengthen his Premier League title winners after an excellent first season in charge of Liverpool.

The Dutchman must now lead the Merseyside giants to a successful summer transfer window, while stalwart Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer after announcing his Anfield departure.

The Liverpudlian has been an excellent servant over the years, winning two Premier League titles, one Champions League, an FA Cup, and two Carabao Cups and will prove tough to replace.

However, Slot hopes that Jeremie Frimpong can fill that void, as Liverpool are closing in on a move for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

Liverpool eye Leipzig star as Frimpong alternative

Liverpool are keen to acquire Frimpong’s signature, but the Anfield side have eyed Leipzig’s Lutsharel Geertruida as an alternative to his fellow Netherlands international.

According to the Mail Online [14 May], it is not the Reds’ style to focus on just one individual, so there is a “serious” possibility that Slot’s men could sign Geertruida.

The Mail’s report adds that Slot was heavily reliant on the 24-year-old when they worked together at Feyenoord, and many in the Netherlands thought he would be the Liverpool manager’s first signing at Anfield.

Liverpool face blow in Dean Huijsen race

While the Reds could sign either Geertruida or Frimpong as their new right-back to replace the Madrid-bound Alexander-Arnold, Slot’s side are now set to miss out on Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen.

Liverpool and Arsenal had both expressed an interest in the 20-year-old, who is enjoying a successful season with the Cherries, but Madrid have now emerged as the front runners to acquire his services.

After claiming Premier League glory in his first season in the Anfield dugout, Slot will be eager to battle for even more silverware next term, including the Champions League.

To achieve such lofty ambitions, the Dutchman must oversee a successful summer of recruitment, which could involve signing either Frimpong or Geertruida.

The Reds are also eager to purchase a new left-back, and have been consistently linked with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, who, like Huijsen, has enjoyed an excellent campaign at the Vitality Stadium.

Slot could also be intent on signing a new forward, with Darwin Nunez set for the Anfield exit door.
