Arne Slot sack now inevitable at Liverpool after embarrassing Premier League reveal

Arne Slot’s days as Liverpool manager are surely numbered amid a damning reveal after his team’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds squandered a one-goal lead in the latter stages of the clash at Anfield, with Dominik Szoboszlai both scoring and being sent off during his team’s defeat.

Bernardo Silva’s strike and an Erling Haaland penalty turned the game on its head inside the final minutes, as City’s comeback left Anfield stunned.

Slot has been feeling the heat from fans and pundits alike in recent weeks, and Sunday’s events will surely leave the Dutchman in an irreparable position.

Arne Slot to be sacked as Liverpool equal damning record

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Slot will be sacked by Liverpool if he lost two of his next three games, and since then, his team have beaten Newcastle and lost to City.

That potentially places a huge emphasis on Wednesday night’s trip to face Sunderland in terms of Slot’s future, but it is certainly possible that the board view the City collapse as the final straw.

It has been an all too familiar occurrence for Slot’s men this term, as they have now conceded four stoppage-time winners in the league already this season.

That is already the joint-most by any team in a single Premier League season, according to journalist Aadam Patel, and there are still 13 games to be played before the end of the campaign.

That damning reveal is made all the more embarrassing for Slot and his men, given that they were routinely hailed for the fierce mentality that they showed on their way to the title last season.

Liverpool’s fortitude in the latter stages of games has seemingly evaporated this term, and it is hard to truly see how they will find a way back to ease the pressure on the boss for good.

The Manchester City defeat may not immediately be the final straw for the Dutchman, but his sacking is surely inevitable at some stage in the coming weeks, as his team continue to fail to close out games.

Reds to accelerate Slot sack amid Xabi Alonso interest

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Liverpool are considering Xabi Alonso as a potential replacement for Slot if they decide to pull the trigger.

The club hierarchy have shown admirable patience towards their title-winning boss of late, but given Alonso’s availability at the moment, they surely need to accelerate their final decision on Slot.

The Spaniard recently left Real Madrid and is highly likely to be linked with almost every big job in world football after the success he enjoyed at Bayer Leverkusen.

With that in mind, if Liverpool are hoping to wait until the summer before they oust Slot and make a move for him, then it could prove to be too late.

Alonso is a legend at Anfield for what he achieved there during his playing career, and if the Reds truly want to ensure a sensational return, then they simply have to act now.
