Arne Slot to Leeds United: Feyenoord fight to block ‘big-money’ approach as talks revealed

Feyenoord are fighting to block an approach from Leeds United for highly-rated boss Arne Slot as talks continue on Friday (10 February), sources have told Football Insider.

The Dutch giants are determined to keep hold of the 44-year-old former midfielder as they are well placed to win the Eredivisie title this season.

Slot is open to taking on the Leeds job and heading to the Premier League despite signing a fresh three-year deal at De Kuip in the summer of 2022.

Football Insider revealed earlier on Friday (10 February) that the Whites will need to pay a “big money” multi-million-pound compensation package in order to prise Slot away from Feyenoord.

It is also understood that there is interest from other clubs in luring the Dutchman – including from what is believed to be another Premier League club.

Slot has been at the helm at Feyenoord since the summer of 2021, and led the giants to a third-place Eredivisie finish as well as a Europa Conference League final last season.

This season, they lead second-place AZ Alkmaar by two points as the Rotterdam club look to win just their second league title this millennium.

The Dutchman worked closely with Leeds United summer-of-2022-signing Luis Sinisterra last season as the Colombia international notched 23 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.

The Yorkshire giants sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday (6 February) after less than 12 months in the hot seat at Elland Road.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan was the first choice of the Whites’ sporting director Victor Orta – but sources told Football Insider on 8 February that he decided to sign a new deal at The Hawthorns after only being offered an 18-month contract at Leeds.

Rayo Vallecano have also reportedly blocked an approach for head coach Andoni Iraola.

Leeds are without a Premier League win since the mid-season World Cup break.

They are only one point clear of the drop zone following their 2-2 draw with Man United on Wednesday (8 February).
