Arne Slot told to copy Pep Guardiola blueprint to avoid more Liverpool ‘despair’

Arne Slot must learn from how Pep Guardiola managed Man City’s collapse last season as his Liverpool side continue to struggle for form.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Liverpool can learn from how their rivals handed a similar run of poor form.

Just as there have been calls for Slot’s head at Liverpool, some suggested Guardiola could be sacked by Man City as the pressure on his position was growing.

However, despite ultimately suffering their first trophyless season since 2016-17, they were able to wrestle back form and put together a strong second half of the season.

Following Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Brighton last time out, Slot has been told he must follow in the footsteps of the City boss as he aims to turn their season around.

Arne Slot told he can learn from Pep Guardiola

Brown told Football Insider on 15 December that Slot is still under pressure at Liverpool despite the club having no plans to sack him at this stage.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, insisted the boss still has some work to do to turn around Liverpool’s recent fortunes.

Liverpool are no different to any other team,” he told Football Insider.

“This run that they’ve been on, it happened to Man City last season and Pep Guardiola couldn’t do a thing about it, he was in despair and couldn’t wait until the end of the season.

“Eventually, over time, they slowly turned things around and started getting back to winning ways.

“Pep deserves some praise for that because he stuck at it and tried a load of different things in an attempt to figure out what the problem was, because it wasn’t clear.

“The parallels are all there for Liverpool, it’s almost the exact same situation, and Slot should look at how Pep handled it and try to do the same.

“Most people expect them to turn things around, it won’t happen as quickly as a snap of the fingers and it could still get worse for them.

“But the manager is being backed to turn things around, so if he can do what Pep did, bide his time and make changes to get a hold back on things, I think that’s all he can do.

“There’s no immediate quick fix because, looking at it, there’s no immediate problem.”

Liverpool make immediate Slot sack decision

Football Insider revealed on 25 November that Liverpool’s hierarchy are backing Slot to turn things around despite what has been a nightmare campaign so far.

The boss has handled recent situations with a lot of composure, earning him high praise, but he is not out of the woods yet as results continue to stutter.

Brown told Football Insider on 4 December that Liverpool could spend big again in January to back the manager and revive their ambitious plans for the season.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider on 8 December that Liverpool are backing Slot despite recent frustrations in the fall-out of his bust-up with Mohamed Salah.

The winger’s public outburst had ramped up pressure on the manager to deal with his unhappiness, but the club have not been swayed by the speculation.
