Arne Slot ‘under pressure from Liverpool’s owners to start Alexander Isak’

Liverpool’s hierarchy are growing increasingly frustrated with performances under Arne Slot after their extensive backing during the summer.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Reds’ chiefs are concerned their huge summer spending is not yielding results.

Liverpool spent around £450million in the summer, including two record-breaking deals for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, as they aimed to back Slot.

However, following their 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield, there are concerns that the manager may no longer be the right man for the job.

While Football Insider revealed last month that Slot is not under imminent sack pressure, questions are being asked as a result of their disastrous run of form.

Liverpool hierarchy concerned about Arne Slot

Brown told Football Insider on 24 November that Slot is facing “serious questions” at Liverpool, and fans are also beginning to turn on the manager.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, insisted that the Liverpool board will want to see results turn around immediately.

“It’s certainly going to be a concern for those at the top,” he told Football Insider.

“They obviously spent a lot of money in the summer to back the manager and hoped it would pay off with results on the pitch, especially after their success last season.

“To everybody on the outside, it looked like Liverpool would go and win it again with their new star players and having strengthened the side.

“But clearly that hasn’t been the case, so it’s starting to become a major problem for them.

“On the other hand, it puts the manager under more pressure because he feels like he’s got to play these players even if they’re not performing.

“Isak, for example, came in on the back of Ekitike who had a really strong start at Liverpool, and all of a sudden Slot has a decision to make about who to play.

“If you spent a record transfer fee on a player, you expect him to be starting every week, but his performances aren’t matching up to that.

“So I think their spending has caused more problems than it has solved, in all honesty.”

Slot criticisms growing amid sack pressure

While speculation surrounding Slot’s future has been played down and any suggestions of his dismissal are largely muted, the pressure is now growing.

Jamie Carragher was largely critical of Liverpool, Slot, and his players when speaking live on Sky Sports as he questioned the current atmosphere around the club.

The Reds legend also confessed many of his friends and family have begun to turn on Slot, and he hasn’t been afforded the unconditional love Jurgen Klopp once held.

Meanwhile, Slot has been blamed for his players’ struggles, and he has been encouraged to take accountability for the form of both Wirtz and Isak.

Questions are now being asked of the manager from both inside and outside of Liverpool, and their upcoming run of fixtures could prove key to his position.
