‘Arne Slot wants Andy Robertson to stay at Liverpool and lead the dressing room’
Milos Kerkez has arrived at Liverpool after impressing with Bournemouth and could usurp Andy Robertson in the pecking order.
Robertson, 31, has just one year left to run on his deal at Anfield and showed signs of decline in the 2024-25 campaign.
He was linked with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer transfer window but their interest has cooled in recent weeks.
The Scotland international has won everything with Liverpool since arriving from Hull City in 2017 and has made 342 appearances for the club.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed Liverpool have a decision to make on Robertson this summer.
Liverpool unlikely to get Robertson offer this summer, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has claimed Liverpool and Arne Slot will “see value” in keeping Robertson at the club beyond what he can offer on the pitch.
Kerkez, 21, arrives at Anfield on a five-year deal after notching two goals and six assists in 41 appearances last term.
Wyness insisted he doesn’t see a too-good-to-turn-down offer arriving for Robertson this summer due to his age.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There’s Tsimikas as as well as Andy Robertson. There are decisions to be made, I think, for Liverpool.
“We’ve just seen with Everton and Seamus Coleman, where Moyes has kept him on for another year because he wants him in the dressing room.
“He’s that sort of quality of player that keeps the standards high. I think the same is probably going to be true about Robertson at Liverpool.
“I believe Arne Slot will see value in keeping him there for another year. It does seem that any potential move to Atletico Madrid has fallen apart. I think his age was always the question mark there.
“Slot will see value in keeping Robertson there as backup possibly, but more importantly as the quality leader in the dressing room and I know he can play that role very well.
“We might just see him sticking where he is for another year and let’s see how that goes, unless the offer comes in – and I don’t see it at that age right now.
“We may still see him as a part of the fabric of Liverpool and preaching the boot room philosophy in the Kop.
“Andy knows the club well, he’s done everything with them and so it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, particularly if they’re having a lot of change in the squad this year.
“It’s important to have those stable quality pros that can keep everybody in line but can at educate them slightly as to what’s going on inside the club. It’s a very valuable asset in the dressing room.
“I’ve always tried to have that myself in every squad that we’ve built.”

Liverpool set Elliott asking price
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (2 July) that Liverpool will sell Harvey Elliott if they receive a bid of £40million this summer.
The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield and is expected to depart in an attempt to kickstart his career.
A number of top German sides have now joined Premier League clubs in the race, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig keeping tabs on the situation.
