Arne Slot ‘wants face-to-face meeting’ prior to agreeing Liverpool player transfer

Jeremie Frimpong looks set to be on the move this summer, with Liverpool just one of several clubs keen on signing the right-back.

Liverpool are likely to be in the hunt for a right-back this summer as speculation grows over the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, and if he does make a move to Real Madrid, the Reds will need a replacement.

Conor Bradley has proven an able deputy for Alexander-Arnold both this season and last, but as Liverpool close in on the Premier League title, Slot will want to add a truly world-class option to his ranks.

The 46-year-old’s only signing last summer, Federico Chiesa, has hardly featured in their charge towards a 20th league title, while Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili won’t arrive until the summer.

Slot could have a significant rebuild on his hands if Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alexander-Arnold all depart on free transfers this summer, but he’s already firmly set his sights on the latter’s successor.

Arne Slot takes ‘personal approach’ to Jeremie Frimpong pursuit

Frimpong’s form for Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen side last season has drawn suitors from across Europe, but Slot is determined to ensure that it’s Liverpool who win the race to sign the defender.

Sky Sport.ch journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported on 24 March that Frimpong is one of Slot’s “main objectives” heading into the summes, with the Reds boss set to take a personal approach in their pursuit.

Slot plans to initiate phone calls with Frimpong’s representatives, followed by direct texts with the player and potentially face-to-face meetings in the coming weeks, to ensure Liverpool beat the competition.

Liverpool are yet to submit an official offer to Leverkusen for a player valued at over £41.8million, but plan to, before adjusting their proposal in accordance with budget and the Bundesliga side’s demands.

Frimpong transfer a no-brainer for Liverpool

Alexander-Arnold leaving for nothing this summer – and potentially being followed down a similar route by Van Dijk and Salah – certainly won’t help aid Liverpool’s budget to pursue targets like Frimpong.

Liverpool’s last significant transfer outlay came two years ago when the midfield quartet of Mac Allister, Endo, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch arrived, and a similar transformational summer could be on the cards.

With Alexander-Arnold heading for the exit door and Bradley still unproven as a first-choice right-back, Slot will hope his personal approach towards signing Frimpong will be enough to get a deal over the line.
