Arsenal add Alexander Isak to four-man striker shortlist – sources

Arsenal are keen on securing a deal to sign Newcastle United star Alexander Isak this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Isak is part of a four-man shortlist to fill the No.9 spot as the Gunners are desperate to bring a new forward through the door once the transfer window reopens next month.

Football Insider previously revealed Emirates chiefs have been told a £100million bid would likely be accepted for the 24-year-old.

But Newcastle are determined to keep hold of Isak after Football Insider revealed on 20 May the club are set to hold talks with him about signing a new contract.

The Magpies are keen to offer the Swedish international an improved deal that would bring him in line with the club’s top earners such as Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier.

The forward’s current contract at St James’ Park is set to run until 2028.

Arsenal could make move to sign Alexander Isak

Isak enjoyed a fine campaign at Newcastle after scoring 25 goals in 40 games as the club secured a seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

That will be enough to secure a spot in next season’s Europa Conference League if Manchester United fail to beat Manchester City in the upcoming FA Cup final.

Arsenal are now reviewing their transfer targets after the season has come to an end, with Isak one of the names under consideration as they look to fill the striker role at the Emirates.

Football Insider revealed the club are ready to listen to offers for Gabriel Jesus to raise funds for a “big-money signing” this summer.

Arsenal are also interested in signing Isak’s international teammate Viktor Gyokeres, but Football Insider revealed the north London club could be priced out of a deal for the Sporting Lisbon striker.

It is believed the Portuguese champions will hold out for the 25-year-old’s full £86million release clause this summer following his impressive campaign.

Mikel Arteta is expected to be handed money for potential signings, but the Gunners manager will not have unlimited funds made available after heavy spending last year.
