Arsenal and Liverpool fans all say same thing about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Celtic debut

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain kicked off his Celtic career in style by finding a last-gasp winner against Livingston on Wednesday.

Celtic beat Livingston 2-1 at Celtic Park, with the midfielder’s goal coming in stoppage time to earn a crucial three points.

The Bhoys went ahead early through Marcelo Saracchi, but Robbie Muirhead’s penalty got the visitors back on terms after the break.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s move to Celtic was confirmed on Saturday, and the 32-year-old made an immediate impact on debut by curling a late winner into the bottom corner.

Martin O’Neill was left disappointed by Celtic’s transfer window, but the Northern Irishman will be delighted by how his latest arrival has started.

Arsenal and Liverpool fans love what Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did

Oxlade-Chamberlain‘s career began at Southampton, but his name was thrust into the lights when he signed for Arsenal in 2011.

With the Gunners, the forward spent 6 years and made 198 appearances, largely featuring as a winger.

It was while there that he earned the majority of his England caps, but when Liverpool approached in 2017 with a chance to play in midfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain jumped at the chance.

The 32-year-old won the Premier League and the Champions League at Anfield, and became a strong fan favourite.

And there are no hard feelings towards Oxlade-Chamberlain at Arsenal, where he spent the last few months training after leaving Besiktas on a free transfer.

Both sets of fans reacted as the midfielder scored his first Celtic goal on Wednesday. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, he whipped a lovely strike into the far corner and beyond Jerome Prior.

Fans of both teams reacted immediately, with one Liverpool fan asking: “Can he join us for three months?”

Another described the goal as “superb”, with others sharing similarly positive sentiments for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

One Arsenal fan suggested that the 32-year-old had “learned that from training with [Martin] Zubimendi the past three months”.

Michael Stewart lauds Oxlade-Chamberlain on key Celtic night

As Oxlade-Chamberlain curled in Celtic’s winner in Glasgow, Bhoys loanee Stephen Welsh was scoring a last-gasp equaliser for Motherwell to take two points away from Rangers.

O’Neill‘s team now sit just one point behind Rangers and six points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts, with a game in hand over both teams.

“It was a class goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,” Michael Stewart told BBC Sportsound. “Just a calm, composed, quality finish.

“He’s not played since May and you’re thinking – is he going to be able to have an impact? And what an impact he’s had already.”
