Arsenal’s have been handed a massive chance of winning the Premier League title by the Opta Supercomputer following a pivotal weekend that saw the Gunners pull nine points clear of Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta’s side secured a dramatic 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday (14 March), sparked by 16-year-old Max Dowman, who became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.

That left Mikel Arteta’s team with a 10-point advantage as Man City travelled to West Ham, where they were held to a 1-1 draw.

Pep Guardiola’s team had chances to regain their lead after Konstantinos Mavropanos scored to cancel out Bernardo Silva’s opening strike, but failed to find the net to close the gap.

Arsenal’s form has now seen them win four consecutive Premier League games, with the league to return for them in April when they play Bournemouth.

Supercomputer places massive faith in Arsenal

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider this month that Arsenal must win trophies to return on their huge summer investment.

The Gunners spent around £250million on the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres and several others in an attempt to bolster the squad.

The Premier League title has been slightly out of reach for Mikel Arteta’s side over the last few years, with three consecutive second-place finishes leaving fans exasperated.

Arsenal decision-makers placed their full faith in the belief that this could be the season, however, and now more than ever, the elusive trophy feels like it is in sight.

Saturday’s scenes felt incredibly telling, with the Emirates Stadium erupting into an explosion of relief and joy at the sight of the teenage Dowman racing onto an empty net.

It was not a perfect performance from the Gunners, and they still must go to the Etihad Stadium next month, but a nine-point advantage is significant.

Opta‘s supercomputer has strengthened its backing of Arsenal to win the title, handing them a 97.42 per cent chance compared to Man City’s 2.58 per cent.

The earliest Arsenal can win the Premier League

Man City can mathematically finish on a maximum of 85 points if they win their final eight Premier League games.

That means Arsenal need just 16 points to sew up the title, or 13 if they beat the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium next month.

That means if the Gunners continue to win, and Guardiola’s side win all of their other remaining games, the title will be won at West Ham in May.

However, if Man City continue to drop points as they are currently doing, the title could even be decided before that.

Arsenal will not be counting their chickens yet, however. They have been here before, and even a slight slip could change the momentum.
