‘Arsenal are doing all they can’ after troubling Lewis-Skelly update

Myles Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season at Arsenal in the 2024-25 campaign and even broke into the England squad under new boss Thomas Tuchel.

The 18-year-old superstar full-back scored the first goal of Tuchel’s Three Lions reign with the opener against Albania in March.

According to The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast (26 May), Lewis-Skelly is attracting interest from Real Madrid with contract talks between Arsenal and the teenager not going well.

The two-cap England star is currently contracted to his boyhood club until June 2026.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on Arsenal’s fight to fend off Los Blancos.

‘Lewis-Skelly negotiations very important for Arsenal’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects Arsenal to do “all they can” to persuade the teenager to stay.

Lewis-Skelly made 39 appearances across all competitions for Mikel Arteta‘s side this term having previously not played a single minute for the first team.

Wyness insisted the 18-year-old is now central to Arteta’s plans and Arsenal’s ambitions of winning the title race.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “This is very important for Arsenal.

“I think Lewis-Skelly is exactly the sort of player Arteta wants for the future of Arsenal.

“Arsenal will be doing all they can.

“They’ve got a very exciting project and he’s definitely part of that.

“They could get a striker in and have a real challenge alongside Liverpool and Man City next season.

“It’s going to be a very fascinating season. Arsenal have got to take care of their business first, and signing Lewis-Skelly up is part of that.”

Arsenal weigh up Leao swoop

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (30 May) that Arsenal are monitoring Rafael Leao’s situation at AC Milan but his price tag is likely to be the main obstacle to a deal.

Arteta‘s side have a window of opportunity to land Portugal international Leao with Milan failing to qualify for any type of European competition in the 2025-26 campaign.

New sporting director Andrea Berta is drawing up a shortlist of left-sided forwards with a new centre-forward also on the transfer agenda.
