Arsenal backed to seal January signing after Emile Smith Rowe injury latest – Campbell
Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to sign an attacking player in January regardless of whether Emile Smith Rowe recovers from injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gunners and Everton striker said more “quality players” are needed if Mikel Arteta’s side are to challenge across all competitions.
On Thursday (29 September), Arsenal announced Smith Rowe had undergone successful surgery to repair a damaged tendon in his groin.
The attacking midfielder has began his rehabilitation process and it is hoped he will return to full training in December.
Campbell suggested Edu and Arteta will sign another wide player even if Smith Rowe makes a full recovery before January.
“Arsenal need to make a move anyway,” he told Football Insider.
“The key to challenging is having a deep squad. You need that to challenge in all competitions.
“It is a shame that Smith Rowe has broken down. I know he will be working hard to get back fit.
“The train is moving at Arsenal though. They need quality players.

“That bench needs to be like Man City’s. That is what you want. There should be players on there that can do the job. We need players that can produce and make a difference.
“You don’t want to be worried thinking you have only got a couple of players on the bench who can make a difference. For that reason Arsenal have to go into the transfer market in January.”
