Arsenal backed to ‘spend big’ on another striker amid ‘major’ concerns over star man
Arsenal have been told they may have to spend big on another striker signing just months after their £55million move to sign Viktor Gyokeres in July.
This comes amid ongoing concerns about their attacking depth, with Gabriel Jesus singled out as a “major” concern despite his goal against Leeds, and he is not the only issue.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Mikel Arteta must improve his forward options if he wants his side to become regular title winners.
Brown referenced title-winning teams of the recent past with “superstar” attackers including the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne.
The Gunners’ defensive stability has been tipped as the difference should they win the league this season, but a lack of regular goalscorers is becoming a problem.

Arsenal have major squad depth concerns
Brown told Football Insider in November that Arsenal have a clear advantage over Man City thanks to their superior defensive structure and set-piece threat.
Arsenal beat Leeds 4-0 at Elland Road last time out, bouncing back from their disappointment against Nottingham Forest and Man United, but concerns are lingering.
“I think there are still some doubts around this Arsenal team,” Brown told Football Insider.
“If you want to win the league, you have to go through all types of highs and lows, dips in form and injuries to important players.
“At the moment, if they get injuries in some important positions, I’m still not convinced they have real top quality players to step in and make the difference.
“I’m not totally convinced about players like Trossard or Martinelli.
“Gabriel Jesus is a good player, a good option, but he’s not somebody who is going to win you Premier League titles, and him starting games is a major concern.
“They obviously went and got Gyokeres in, but I think they could still do with spending big on a top-tier striker because they’ve still not got any regular goalscorers.

“Look at sides who have won the league recently, their attacking players. Liverpool have the likes of Mohamed Salah, City have had Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero.
“Arsenal haven’t got that sort of player who you think could fire them to the Premier League title, they’re relying on their defense, which is fine but it means they can be frustrated.”
Who is the favourite to win the Premier League?
Arsenal’s win against Leeds has kept Man City and Aston Villa at arm’s length, moving six points clear after both teams dropped points.
However, Brown told Football Insider on 26 January that Man City are the Premier League title favourites, as he backed them to cut down their deficit.
Previous record in close-fought title battles has given them a clear advantage, as Pep Guardiola’s sides are capable of producing lengthy winning runs.

Arsenal have finished as runners-up to City in the last two seasons despite previously holding strong positions, and that will likely play on their minds again.
After dropping points in successive weekends prior to their victory against Leeds, the Gunners have shown frailties which could be exploited in the title race.
