Arsenal blow as key man ruled out of Chelsea showdown

By Tony Hughes

Aaron Ramsey is set to miss Arsenal’s Premier League showdown against Chelsea on Saturday.

Manager Arsene Wenger revealed on Monday that the key midfielder has still not recovered from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him since the opening day of the season.

Ramsey limped out of the 4-3 defeat to Liverpool on 14 August and has missed Arsenal’s subsequent five matches in the Premier League and Champions League.

Wenger said last week that he hoped the Wales international could be in contention for Saturday’s landmark home match against London rivals Chelsea.

But the Frenchman gave a more pessimistic update about Ramsey’s fitness ahead of Tuesday’s EFL Cup trip to Championship club Nottingham Forest.

Asked about the 25-year-old, Wenger told the official Arsenal website: “He is still out – I don’t think he will be ready for the weekend either.”

This comes amid a report that Ramsey and Wenger have held showdown talks about the player’s future at Emirates Stadium.

In other Arsenal team news, the Gunners are set to make 11 changes to their starting XI for the clash at the City Ground on Tuesday.
