Injury expert makes 'massive' Tierney claim after latest Arsenal news

Steve Clarke has done Arsenal a “massive favour by including Kieran Tierney in his Scotland squad following his recovery from injury.

So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Tierney has missed the Gunners’ last three matches after suffering severe bruising to his right ankle.

But the 24-year-old left-back was named in the Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Denmark.

As quoted by the Evening Standard on 9 September, Scotland assistant John Carver revealed: “We don’t see any problems in him [Tierney].”

Tierney was named among the substitutes for Arsenal’s victory over Watford on 7 November but did not make it off the bench.

Dinnery claims that Arteta will be grateful that the international break has provided a platform for Tierney to build up his fitness.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for Tierney to get minutes in his leg,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams

“He was available at the weekend but Nuno Tavares has been brilliant and they have been getting results.

“Defensively, they’ve been sound. We know Tierney is first choice but Tavares has proved there’s no need to rush him back from that little injury.

“Steve Clarke has done Arteta a massive favour in giving Tierney the opportunity to get some minutes in his legs and get that sharpness back.

“Hopefully he can return to the club in a better place than he left, so it’s a win for both the club and the player.”
