Arsenal close in on £100m+ windfall after Champions League victory vs Sporting CP
Arsenal have moved a step closer to taking their Champions League prize money to more than £100million for this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed a strong European campaign after topping the league phase of the competition.
Arsenal then went on to beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 victory on aggregate in the last 16 to book their place in the quarter-finals.
The Gunners now have one foot in the semi-finals after securing a 1-0 win over Sporting CP in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Tuesday (7 April) in the Portuguese capital.
Reaching the final four would add a further £13.1m to Arsenal’s prize money, but they still have to finish the job when they host Sporting in the second leg on 15 April.

In terms of how the numbers break down, each team will receive a guaranteed £16.1m for competing in the Champions League this season.
Meanwhile, Swiss Ramble reported Arsenal would earn £32.2m from Uefa’s value pillar system, which is split into European and non-European segments based on their coefficient ranking and the market pool.

Clubs were awarded £1.8m for each win in the league phase, meaning Arsenal banked £14.4m after securing victories in all eight fixtures.
They also received £9.5m for qualifying automatically for the round of 16 as well as £1.7m for finishing in the top eight.
The 36 clubs competing in the Champions League this season are handed an additional amount based on their individual ranking in the league phase.
Kairat Almaty earned £238,000 after finishing bottom, while topping the table landed Arsenal a further £8.6m.
Progressing to the quarter-finals added an extra £10.9m to the Gunners’ total, ensuring their prize money currently stands at just over £93m.
If Arteta’s side can overcome Sporting to reach the semi-finals, the extra £13.1m windfall would take their Champions League haul to more than £106m for the campaign.
