Arsenal could agree ‘£50m’ January signing – Stefan Borson
Arsenal have plenty of profit and sustainability (PSR) capacity to agree new signings in the January transfer window.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the north London club could agree a £50million transaction over the next five years without their owners needing to put any money in.
Arsenal were dealt a crushing blow when it was revealed Bukayo Saka will miss the next few months with a hamstring injury.
Football Insider revealed on 30 December Emirates chiefs have decided to explore a move for another forward player after the winger underwent surgery.
Mikel Arteta spent more than £90million in the summer window on the permanent additions of Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino and David Raya, while Neto and Raheem Sterling joined on loan.
Arsenal have financial power to agree January signings
Borson insisted Arsenal have the financial power to buy a new player in January.
“They have got a lot of capacity on PSR,” Borson told Football Insider.
“They are now starting to admit that apparently. I think they used it tactically that they had this PSR issue when negotiating with other teams.
“It’s never really been true when you look at their numbers.
“They have always had loads of capacity on PSR and continue to do so, so it’s not a PSR issue.
“They would need money to be put in if they did a very substantial deal.
“But something that was relatively small over the next five years, something that was a £50million transaction over five years, would probably only need £10-20million of cash put in in the early stages of that transaction.
“That’s something they could handle without the owners putting their hands in their pocket.
“They are in a very good financial position.
“If they need to buy a player, they can buy a player.”
