‘Arsenal could be about to pull off brilliant Leroy Sane deal – wow, I’m shocked’

Leroy Sane has been linked with a move back to England with Arsenal this summer after he rejected the offer of a new contract at Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old has been in Germany since he left Man City back in 2020, winning four titles during his five years in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal have been keeping a close eye on Sane as his Bayern deal comes to an end, with Mikel Arteta’s side looking to improve their attack for next season.

However, Galatasaray have been widely linked with the winger and could complete a free transfer deal in the coming days.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has insisted that Sane still has what it takes to compete in the Premier League for another couple of years.

‘Sane would be brilliant for Arsenal’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed his “shock” when he first heard the links between Sane and Arsenal.

The winger scored 11 Bundesliga goals for Bayern last season, as well as picking up five assists, in his 30 appearances.

Wyness added that Sane could be the “difference-maker” for the Gunners if they managed to get the deal over the line.

Sane’s record at Bayern Munich in the last five seasons

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It would be a coup.

“I was shocked when I saw it because I thought, wow, fantastic, that would be brilliant for Arsenal.

“I think it’s also, given the squad they’re trying to build with some youth, that experience from Sane would be invaluable.

“He’s had a superb career. He’s still got it, I’m convinced.

“There’s another two really good seasons at the top level. And I think for Arsenal, he would be a difference-making player that would give them that title-challenging squad, and also the European ability as well.

“He’s got the experience, he’s got the knowledge, and I think he would be a great asset.

“If they can bring him in along with some younger talent as well, Arsenal would be looking fantastic.”
