Arsenal could now sell Emile Smith Rowe for pure profit – sources

Arsenal are weighing up the possible sale of midfielder Emile Smith Rowe ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed both player and club will have a huge decision to make in the off-season.

Smith Rowe, 23, has made just three starts across all competitions this season amid a backdrop of niggling injuries and more competition for places at the Emirates Stadium but remains immensely popular with supporters after coming through the ranks.

The England international will have two years remaining on his contract in June.

He is considered a home-grown player after graduating from the Arsenal academy – and therefore any sale will be pure profit for Financial Fair Play purposes.

Arsenal could bank pure profit from Smith Rowe sale this summer

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a potential sale could help the Gunners land their top targets as they plot another big-money window this summer.

Smith Rowe missed the 6-0 demolition of West Ham on Sunday (11 February) with an ankle problem – just the latest in a string of injuries in recent years.

He has made 14 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.

The 23-year-old looked destined to be the next star out of Arsenal’s youth system after scoring 11 goals in the 2021-22 season but has so far failed to deliver on that promise.

Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli are among the players ahead of Smith Rowe in the Gunners’ pecking order.
