Arsenal could pull contract U-turn after ‘incredible’ Eddie Nketiah transformation – pundit

Mikel Arteta could cave to the contract demands of Eddie Nketiah after his transformation of the Arsenal attack, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old is an “incredible natural goalscorer”.

Nketiah has scored two goals in his first three Premier League starts of the season – all of which have come in the space of seven days.

Arsenal moved back into the box seat to secure Champions League football with back-to-back wins over Chelsea (20 April) and Man United (23 April).

Speaking on the Beautiful Game Podcast (19 April), Nketiah has confirmed he has contract offers on the table – including from Arteta’s side – but will wait until the end of the season before making a decision.

He insisted he will need more game time in order to take the “next step” in his career.

Whelan insisted the former England Under-21 striker will have given Arteta something to think about.

“He’s given them the goals – there’s nothing more important,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“We know he’s an incredible natural goalscorer, we could see that at Leeds United. He’s come in and just refreshed that attack.

“You’ve got to give credit to Nketiah because he’s out of contract – but still fighting so hard for the shirt.

“Mikel Arteta has got to be pleased about that and he may be reconsidering letting them go so easily.

Arsenal

“A week ago it was Tottenham in the driving seat. Who would have thought Arsenal could turn it around with these two wins?

The derby at White Hart Lane is going to be crucial. It could even be down to who wins that game.”
