Arsenal could seal ‘marquee’ Raheem Sterling signing after journalist’s ‘brilliant’ update – expert

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling could take Arsenal to the next level, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 27-year-old would be “a marquee signing” for Mikel Arteta’s side this summer.

According to The Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath (9 May), Arsenal are ready to explore a move for Sterling should he become available at the end of the season.

Sterling has just over 12 months on his contract at the Etihad and has parked talks over a new deal until the summer at the earliest.

Arteta has worked with the England international during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant between 2016 and 2019.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on a potential move for Sterling, Campbell said: “We would take him.

“He would be a marquee signing.

“If he came in the top end of the pitch is sorted. There would be experience and youngsters. Arteta would have pace, talent and know-how in the forward positions. We would be sorted.

“It would be a heavy outlay to bring in Sterling but if you want to be up there challenging you need players like him. He is the type of player you need.

“He’d be a brilliant signing but how feasible it is I don’t know.”

Sterling has enjoyed another impressive campaign for Man City.

He has contributed 17 goals and eight assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
