‘Arsenal dealt Rodrygo blow amid significant Real Madrid injury news’

Arsenal’s pursuit of Rodrygo has suffered a setback as Real Madrid deal with a significant injury to one of their stars.

The Gunners have been hell bent on strengthening their side as they look to avoid finishing second for the fourth season in a row and claim the Premier League title.

The 2024-25 campaign saw Mikel Arteta’s side go close across all competitions, reaching the semi-finals of both the EFL Cup and the Champions League.

Falling short in three competitions has seen the north London outfit bolster their ranks with the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea.

But their efforts to further enhance their squad may now have taken a potential hit following news coming out of the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alonso chase for Rodrygo hit by Madrid injury update

Alongside Arsenal’s hunt for Victor Gyokeres, the Gunners have also been eager to acquire the services of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.

The 24-year-old fell out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti, but has been given opportunities under new manager Xabi Alonso.

According to Fabrizio Romano (21 July) in his GIVEMESPORT newsletter, the Brazilian has to speak to the club in the next few days over his future, with a final price likely to be over £86million.

The winger is yet to comment on the speculation and Romano believes there will be no advancement in talks with Arsenal until Rodrygo speaks to Los Blancos.

However, it may now hit the buffers anyway after his Brazilian compatriot Endrick sustained an injury.

Reports from Marca (22 July) expect the Brazilian wonderkid to be out for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Athletic (10 July) first reported the relapse of the injury, reducing competition for a starting spot up front.

Endrick, 19, scored just once in the league last season with limited minutes and faces a spell on the sidelines.

Rodrygo to stay with Real Madrid

Football Insider verdict

Endrick’s injury presents a conundrum for the Spanish giants, considering Kylian Mbappe only featured in the knockout stages of the Club World Cup.

21-year-old Gonzalo Garcia stepped up in the Frenchman’s absence and may be given an extended run in the first team to support Alonso’s attacking trio.

Should talks go well, Rodrygo may be tempted to stay in the Spanish capital under a new manager to impress.

His compatriot’s injury gives the Brazil international the chance to find his feet in Madrid again, instead of venturing abroad to the Premier League.

For the Gunners, they will be hoping that talks between Real Madrid and Rodrygo end poorly in a bid to tempt the winger over to London.
