Arsenal decisions on Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah revealed after twist - pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Arsenal duo Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah will be leaving this summer after Mikel Arteta’s comments on their future.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested contracts would have already been finalised if they were to remain at the club beyond this summer.
Lacazette, 30, and Nketiah, 22, are out of contract next month.
Speaking after Arsenal beat Everton 5-1 at home on Sunday (22 May) and quoted by journalist Charles Watts, Arteta revealed a “decision has been made” on the future of the duo but claimed “it is very difficult to communicate it”.
Lacazette and Nketiah both played a key role as the Gunners missed out on a top-four finish in the final weeks of the season.
Whelan claimed the pair will be let go with Arteta likely targeting an “upgrade” this summer.

“I believe there’s change afoot at Arsenal,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“If they were going to stay then they’d have signed by now. I think the writing’s on the wall, personally.
“Arteta probably wants to bring in a fresh face and try and give them a bit more firepower to really fight for that Champions League spot next season.
“It’s important they keep the spine, the Saka’s, the Gabriel’s – but these two will have been identified as somewhere that is due an upgrade.”
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Man City striker Gabriel Jesus but face competition from rivals Tottenham.
Nketiah scored 10 goals across all competitions this term – while Lacazette contributed six strikes.
