Report: Arsenal reject striker offer, another £2.1m will seal the deal

By Aramide Oladipo

Arsenal have rejected an offer from La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruña for striker Lucas Perez, according to a report.

Spanish newspaper La Voz de Galicia claims that the North London club have rebuffed a £10.9million bid from the Spanish outfit for the 28-year-old with the Gunners reportedly determined to receive an offer closer to £13million.

The report claims that the Spanish side have spent weeks trying to secure the striker’s signature this summer and there could potentially be developments about the transfer next week.

The Spaniard’s representative Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle told the newspaper that he felt that Deportivo’s offer is “very reasonable for a player who has been devalued by Arsenal” and he mentioned that he is set to negotiate once more with the club “in a few days”.

Perez appears to have played his last match as an Arsenal player as he was not involved in the matchday squads for the Community Shield match against Chelsea nor the opening day Premier League victory over Leicester City.

During his debut campaign in England, the striker spent the majority of the time on the substitutes bench but he still managed to contribute with seven goals in all competitions.

The Spaniard currently has three years remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Football Insider verdict

It is time for Arsenal to swallow their pride and allow the striker to leave the club this summer. Perez is clearly not part of Arsene Wenger’s plans for this season therefore they should be more flexible in negotiating his departure. The Gunners need to be careful that they don’t price clubs out of a possible transfer for the striker as not many would be persuaded to spend around £13million on a player who failed to break into the first-team last season. Unlike the Alexis Sanchez situation, Arsenal don’t need to play hard-ball in this deal as Perez is obviously not rated highly enough at the club. It would be best for all parties involved to find a quick solution before this becomes a full-blown saga.
