Arsenal emphatically rule out move for in-form Premier League striker

By Tony Hughes

Arsene Wenger has emphatically denied that Arsenal are interested in signing Troy Deeney from Watford.

The London giants were linked with a surprise January move for the in-form Hornets skipper earlier this week.

But Wenger revealed on Friday morning that he is not looking to add Deeney to his front line.

Asked at his weekly media briefing if stories linking Arsenal with the Watford striker were rubbish, Wenger replied, “Yes.”

Deeney is a boyhood Arsenal fan but said on Wednesday that he has no plans to leave high-flying Watford halfway through the season.

“We have still got a project to complete, he told talkSPORT. “It is very flattering. My son is an Arsenal fan so he read it in the paper the other day and I don’t think he is happy that I am staying at Watford.”

Arsenal take on Sunderland in the FA Cup third round on Saturday as they begin their defence of the competition that they have won for the last two seasons.
