Finance guru: Arsenal emulating Paris Saint-Germain with 'really smart' announcement

Arsenal are following in the footsteps of Paris Saint-Germain by pushing new streetwear-style merchandise.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gunners’ new pre-match training range.

The Londoners announced the launch of the green and yellow kit last Friday (26 August).

The Adidas strip, which the club explains is in celebration of its Jamaican supporters, is now available to buy from the club shop and Arsenal’s digital retail portal.

French giants PSG have had phenomenal success with their range of kits in collaboration with Nike’s Air Jordan streetwear brand.

And Plumley claims that the Gunners’ strategy is in a similar vein.

“I think it’s a really smart move,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“From a consumer point of view, we might think it’s just yet another kit. But from a commercial point of view, you’ve got to look at the PSG model. They have done something different away from the traditional football shirts.

“You have to look at demographic as well. Clubs need to appeal to a younger fanbase, that really important 16-24 age bracket.

“This sort of thing, the streetwear style which is so attractive at the moment, is all geared towards that.

“It’s another instance of getting more money from fans, and you can see why they are looking to go down this route.”
