Arsenal ‘expected to complete last-gasp January signing’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he expects Arsenal to work right up to the 3 February deadline to complete a crucial new signing.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted there is still a “slim chance” of winning the Premier League, and warned that Champions League qualification is not assured.
Arsenal are yet to complete a signing in the mid-season window despite being hit with a number of injuries in recent weeks.
Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Ben White and William Saliba are among the Gunners stars on the treatment table.
Mikel Arteta’s side are second in the Premier League table – six points behind Liverpool, having played a game more than the Reds.
The Gunners have also all-but secured progression to the last 16 of the Champions League ahead of the final league phase game next week.
Arsenal will work up to deadline to seal new signing, says Wyness
Reacting to their lack of transfer activity, Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Every day I’ve been waiting for something, but so far it has just been rumours which don’t seem to materialise.
“I think they’ll be one of the clubs who have the lights on until 3 February, trying until the very end.
“They’ve had some injuries and very bad luck at both ends of the pitch.
“There is still a slim chance of the league title, if Liverpool slip up, so they’ve got to maximise their chances.

“Champions League is also still a big factor in this season. The race for the top four is on, as well. Forest, Chelsea, City are all in that mix.
“I do expect some sort of move from Arsenal before the end of this window.”
