Arsenal expert gives insight on Unai Emery after ‘huge’ Aston Villa reveal

Kevin Campbell has claimed Unai Emery “is a shrewd appointment” by Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal player and La Liga TV pundit said the 50-year-old is a “good tactician” who is “not afraid” to make early substitutions in matches.

On Monday (24 October), Aston Villa confirmed the appointment of Emery from Villarreal.

He replaces Steven Gerrard as the permanent manager of the Midlands club.

Emery has managed Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla during his 18 years in the dugout.

Sources have told Football Insider (27 October) that Villa’s owners are ready to hand Unai Emery a “huge” transfer kitty ahead of the January window.

Campbell gave an insight on what Villa fans can expect from Emery over the next few seasons.

“Emery is a schemer,” he told Football Insider.

“He is a good tactician. He likes to attack but his teams are built on a solid defence.

“At Arsenal, his team tended to change quite a lot. If it wasn’t working he would make changes at half time. He was not afraid to do that. He always tinkered with it.

“One thing is for sure, he is a winner. He has not had a lot of money at most of the clubs he has been at. He has not had a lot of top quality players. But wherever he has been, he has succeeded and won trophies. He has won trophies against the odds at times.

“I think it is a shrewd appointment. Emery is a winner who has a wealth of experience. I think he will do well.”
