Arsenal expert issues emphatic response to Mohamed Salah after reveal via Sky

Kevin Campbell has poured cold water on the idea of Arsenal winning the Premier League despite Mohamed Salah’s claim.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gunners and Everton striker suggested Mikel Arteta’s side do not have the strength in depth to compete with the likes of Man City.

Arsenal are top of the Premier League after winning their opening five games of the campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports (22 August), Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah named Arsenal as one of the title contenders this season.

Campbell suggested the Gunners are two signings short of a serious challenge.

“Last season taught us a lot,” he told Football Insider.

“The youngsters couldn’t get it over the line when it was in their hands. The additions made this summer have really added to the belief though. When you suffer disappointment, you carry it with you. You could see in pre-season Arsenal were at it all the time.

“Bringing back [William] Saliba from his loan, [Oleksandr] Zinchenko and [Gabriel] Jesus from Man City, it has made a real difference. The levels have gone up.

“I still think Arsenal are a couple of players short though. The midfield is an area I would have liked to have seen them add to.

“If everybody is kept fit, it will be interesting to see where Arsenal stand at Christmas. In January, the window will re-open. It will be interesting to see where we are by then.

“We will have a good gauge of how the team plays in the big games. That will be the key.”
