Arsenal expert verdict on Gabriel Jesus U-turn after ‘frustrating’ development
Man City striker Gabriel Jesus would move to Arsenal even if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
That is the view of former Gunners and Everton forward Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old’s potential move to the Emirates this summer.
Arsenal’s top-four hopes hang by a string following a 2-0 loss at Newcastle United on Monday night.
It is now likely that Mikel Arteta’s side will be in the Europa League for the 2022-23 campaign.
According to Football.London‘s Chris Wheatley (9 May), Arsenal are working on a deal for Man City’s Jesus ahead of the summer window.
The Brazil international has just over 12 months left on his contract at the Etihad.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if a fifth-placed finish could scupper a potential deal, Campbell said: “I don’t think it will.
“Champions League is the ultimate, of course. It’d be frustrating to miss out.
“But Mikel Arteta knows the player and I think he will be coming to play for Arteta rather than to play in the Champions League. I think that is really important.
“I have been watching Jesus closely in recent weeks. He was brilliant at West Ham on Sunday, especially in the second half.

“Look, some targets may turn down Arsenal if they are not in the Champions League. Others clubs who are in the Champions League will probably be preferred.
“The key for Jesus is Mikel Arteta though. I think he is coming.”
