Arsenal fans erupt at ‘shocking’ Anthony Elanga as Man City close gap in Premier League title race

Anthony Elanga is now enemy No.1 after a “shocking” performance for Newcastle United against Man City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League title race is well and truly heating up, with Pep Guardiola‘s side closing the gap at the top of the table to just two points before the North London derby kicks off on Sunday, 22 February.

Football fans up and down the country believe that Man City are set to pip the Gunners to first place once again, and the nerves at the Emirates Stadium would suggest the same right now.

Nico O’Reilly’s brace sandwiched a deflected effort from Lewis Hall in the first half, but with the Magpies wasting several chances to equalise again, Arsenal fans have begun rioting on social media.

Anthony Elanga accused of costing Newcastle United vs Man City

Anthony Gordon continued his fine form from midweek, having scored four in the Champions League, and it was Elanga who caused the most frustration as City closed the gap.

Being labelled as “shocking,” it is safe to say that very few Arsenal fans would dream of signing the former Nottingham Forest man, who failed to create a single chance at the Etihad [FotMob].

One supporter went as far as to dub him “one of the worst players” they’d ever seen in the division, with those in North London clearly getting nervous about their first-place spot in the standings.

What did Newcastle United fans make of Elanga’s performance?

To put it simply, Newcastle fans want Elanga sold.

Very few have been impressed by him since his £55million from Nottingham Forest, with just two goal contributions to his name at St James’ Park.

Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy both had to settle for cameos off the bench, and that was already enough to infuriate supporters before a ball had even been kicked.

With a single blocked shot, just 26 touches, zero completed dribbles, and 67 per cent of ground duels lost, it was a performance to be forgotten for the Sweden international.

The Magpies are unlikely to get rid of him as soon as the summer transfer window, but he needs to improve massively if a move away isn’t at least being discussed.
