Arsenal fans fume at ‘corrupt’ referee as new Tottenham footage emerges
Arsenal fans cannot believe they were not awarded a penalty in the first half of their Premier League clash with Tottenham after an apparent handball.
Mikel Arteta’s side fought hard to a 1-0 away from home against their North London rivals thanks to a winning goal from Gabriel Magalhaes to snatch all three points.
However, the spotlight remained on Jarred Gillet and his refereeing team after Cristian Romero appeared to handle the ball on the line, preventing a goal.
After Guglielmo Vicario saved Kai Havertz’s header, the ball bounced back off of Romero’s arm, preventing it from falling to Leandro Trossard.
However, no penalty was given, and no VAR review was shown to the fans, leaving Arsenal supporters incensed at the potentially game-changing call.
With replays showing the ball had clearly struck the defender’s hand, fans are insisting he should have been sent off and Arsenal awarded an early penalty.
Arsenal fans explode as Cristian Romero handball incident re-analysed
Given the distance between Vicario’s save and the ball striking Romero, there can be a case put forward for no penalty being given.
However, with the ball set to fall for Trossard if not for the defender’s arm, Arsenal fans are insisting they were “robbed” of a “blatant” penalty.
Taking to social media during the game, Gunners fans have labelled the referees “corrupt” and have continued their fume at the PGMOL after the controversy in their clash v Brighton.
