Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Giroud award snub
By Matt Farr
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been denied the Premier League goal of the month award for January – and fans on Twitter are furious.
The Frenchman scored an outrageous scorpion kick during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last month, and was one of the frontrunners to win the award.
However, the accolade instead went to West Ham’s Andy Carroll, for his gravity-defying effort against Palace two weeks’ later.
The Premier League announced the decision on their official Twitter account on Friday morning.
The 28-year-old pulled-off an incredible overhead-kick to hammer home Michail Antonio’s cross, and send Hammers fans into raptures.
Yet while both goals earned top billing from the media, there could only be one winner, and Arsenal fans believe the wrong choice was made.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Giroud’s acrobatic effort was one of only a few positives drawn from a mixed January period for Arsenal, who saw their Premier League title hopes dashed once again.
Following the victory over Palace, the Gunners laboured to a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth, then struggled to overcome Championship outfit Preston in the FA Cup third round.
Then, despite a convincing victory over Swansea, Arsenal then needed a last-minute Alexis Sanchez penalty to defeat Burnley, and then finished the month with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Watford.
It was a decent month for Giroud, however, netting three goals and two assists. The 30-year-old now has 11 goals and five assists from 23 appearances in all competitions.
