Arsenal fans have been left distraught by the news that Alexandre Lacazette faces a spell on the sidelines following an operation to repair an injury.

beINSports announced on Wednesday that the French striker would require surgery on a knee injury which would take up to six weeks for the player to make a comeback.

Wenger called it a “massive blow”.

Gunners fans were left stunned by the news, with many questioning who would take the place of the 26-year-old and the side effect it would have on their ability to progress in the Europa League.

One supporter suggested that teenage protege Eddie Nketiah ought to be drafted in to replace the crocked Frenchman.

Another urged the club to look further afield by bringing Lucas Perez back from Deportivo La Coruna where the forward is currently on loan.

Without Lacazette, the Gunners are unable to call upon new signing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to solve their attacking problems in Europe as the Gambian is cup-tied having already played for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Dortmund dropped into the Europa League and that’s led to Arsenal being unable to call on their new star signing.

That leaves Danny Welbeck, who has been in and out of the team through injury himself, and Alex Iwobi as the only other options.

With two goals in 26 outing for the Gunners, Iwobi is hardly setting the footballing world on fire and it begs the question, why let Olivier Giroud go?

Arsene Wenger’s side have been inconsistent throughout the current campaign, whose only hope of making a Champions League place for next season looks to be through winning the Europa League.
