Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Lucas Perez display against Basel
By Harry Sykes
Arsenal fans went into meltdown on Twitter after Lucas Perez scored a hat-trick in the club’s 4-1 Champions League win against Basel on Tuesday night.
Perez marked his first Champions League appearance for Arsene Wenger’s side with goals after eight, 16 and 47 minutes.
The forward, who joined for £17million from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer, had been on the fringes of the Arsenal side for the opening months of the season.
He had made four previous starts for the club, with three of them coming in the League Cup and yielding a total of two goals, both against Championship side Nottingham Forest.
But Perez demonstrated his pedigree with his three-goal show against the Swiss opponents to provide Wenger with another forward option in the second half of the season.

Supporters were thrilled that the Spaniard, 28, had proved he can be a force to be reckoned with in Europe’s premier club competition and joked how he had scored as many Champions League goals in 47 minutes as the entire Tottenham team had in this season’s group stages.

Arsenal’s win in Switzerland, coupled with Paris Saint-Germain’s draw against minnows Ludogorets, means that Wenger’s side top Group A with a haul of 14 points.
This could be hugely significant, as they will avoid many of the big hitting European sides in the first knockout stage in February.
