Arsenal fans react on Twitter to reported transfer hijack for £32,000-a-week goal machine

By Dominic Toner

Arsenal fans have expressed mixed views on Twitter to news that their club has hijacked Everton’s move for Spanish striker Lucas Perez.

The Mail claim that the Gunners have tracked the Deportivo La Coruna hotshot, 27, for the past year and have made a rival bid just as the Toffees were looking to push through the deal.

Spanish newspaper Sport claimed on Wednesday that Everton will pay the £17million release clause in his contract before doubling his wages, which would total around £32,000-a-week.

However, the Mail reports that the Goodison Park club are wary that negotiations have not been straightforward and Deportivo have told Spanish clubs Perez is close to an agreement with Arsenal.

Many Arsenal supporters are underwhelmed after being linked with high-profile names such as Alexandre Lacazette, Jamie Vardy and Gonzalo Higuain this summer.

Arsene Wenger has opted to use Alexis Sanchez as a forward at the start of the season but many fans believes Arsenal need a new striker to compete with frontman Olivier Giroud in attack.

Lucas joined Deportivo last summer for £1.3million after spending the previous season on loan from PAOK.

The forward was in superb form last season and his 17 La Liga goals helped Deportivo escape the drop from Spain’s top flight.

In other Arsenal transfer news, they are set to offload their £16million player next week.
